Amanda Butterfield ReportingTwo moose were loose this morning in a Sandy neighborhood, walking down the streets in and out of yards.
The two females, likely sisters, are only yearlings, and weigh about 600-pounds each, almost at their full-grown size. Officials with the Department of Wildlife Resources were able to dart the moose, and get them safely out of the neighborhood, but they're gearing up for more moose to wander into the valley.
Anis Aoude, Dept. of Wildlife Resources: "Usually this time of year, yearling moose kicked out by mother when they're ready to have their calf for this year."
Kelly Taylor/, Neighbor: "Never seen anything like this before, being from New York."
These two are on their way to Colorado. The DWR has a contract with the state to supply them with moose since our population here is getting so big. It's a good thing they're getting moved so far away because once yearlings wander down into the valley, they usually end up wandering back because they are young, they haven't established a territory yet, and they don't have their mom to guide.
