Seventh European Literary Meetings open in Sarajevo

Sarajevo (dpa) - Some 100 writers and intellectuals from Europe, Asia, North America and Africa gathered in Sarajevo Wednesday for the opening of the 7th European Literary Meetings.

The main topic of this year's event, traditionally organized by the French "André Malraux" cultrual centre in Sarajevo, would be "The City" as an unavoidable object of literature, film industry or art and culture in general.

Authors and artists including Andre Brink, Antjie Krog, Michael Cimino, Aline Schulman, Bualem Sansal, Anne Brunswinc, Jean-Marie Laclavetine, Aleksandar Grujicic, Borka Legras, were expected to take part in the discussions during the five-day event.

Well known British writer of the Pakistani origin Hanif Kureishi would also attend and would talk about his works - novels and movies based on his novels.
