SALT LAKE CITY — A man was critically injured when the motorcycle he was riding crashed in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Speed and alcohol were factors in the accident, according to Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department.
Hoyal said the man was riding up the canyon around 9 p.m. Thursday when he failed to maneuver a sharp curve.
"He ended up going off the side of the road and dropped off about 100 feet down to the river below," Hoyal explained.
The driver was wearing a helmet, which Hoyal said helped save him from a serious head injury.
The man was flown to the University of Utah Hospital in critical condition with severe leg injuries.
Hoyal said alcohol was found at the crash scene.
