UTAH COUNTY — A Saratoga Springs woman was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in a rollover crash that left one of her passengers in critical condition over the weekend.

The woman — 52-year-old Dawn Lynn Grochowski of Saratoga Springs — was driving a Jeep Wrangler with three other passengers in Israel Canyon west of Utah Lake Sunday evening. Grochowski apparently lost control of the Jeep on a switchback on Lake Mountain Communication Road, and the vehicle rolled 50 feet down a steep, rocky embankment — according to Utah County sheriff's deputies.

The Jeep — which did not have a top — landed upside down on a lower switchback. One passenger — 36-year-old Trevor Nielson of Saratoga Springs — suffered severe head injuries and remained unconscious at the scene, deputies said.

Nielson was flown to University of Utah Hospital where he remained in the ICU in extremely critical condition Monday.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators they saw a passenger take a cooler out of the Jeep before deputies arrived. Grochowski and another passenger admitted they'd been drinking before the crash, deputies said.

Grochowski was treated for scrapes and cuts at American Fork Hospital before being booked into the Utah County Jail. If Nielson doesn't survive the crash, the charges against Grochowski could become more severe, deputies said.

The area where the crash occurred is used to access communications towers at the top of the mountain and is frequented by hunters and off-road enthusiasts.
