Marc Giauque reportingYou may see a lot of flowers being delivered at your workplace tomorrow, and it could be that the person delivering them is making more cash than you, at least for the day.
OK, maybe not quite as much as you. But at the Murray Flower Patch, a sign advertised drivers could make up to $35 an hour on the busiest delivery day of the year.
There is a catch. "That's contract drivers. They have to furnish their own car, their own insurance," said Flower Patch owner Tom Gordon.
And it's only for one day.
Gordon says it's about the math: A contract driver gets five bucks for every delivery. He says some drivers come back every year. Others are students and the like. Most have a positive experience beyond the money.
"It's certainly not a hostile environment. Flowers have a tendency to make everyone happy," Gordon said.
He has one fear. He says he stays up at night hoping it doesn't snow.
