A woman and her family lived in the home. All residents have been safely accounted for.

Heavy Smoke and Flames Pour from Home

The house is located at 2600 E. 3200 S. Damage to the house is extensive, but the fire is out at this point. Neighbors saw smoke and called 9-1-1 just after 2:00 today. When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames.

Firefighters were able to get the fire out quickly, but it was still a frightening situation for neighbors.

Mary Waldroup, Neighbor: "Don't know if anybody was home or not, and the older girl. So I ran around to the back and kicked the spring door in and yelled for her name, but it was up in flames by then."

Capt. Jay Torgersen, Unified Fire Authority: "Firefighters said it was extremely hot. Any time you have fire in the face, the heat stayed inside the foundation, so it was extremely hot for firefighters to get down there and put water on the fire."

The fire was so intense that a car sitting in a neighbor's driveway was scorched.

No word at this point on how or where the fire started.
