SALT LAKE CITY — The Zions Bank Wasatch Front Consumer Price Index increased 0.2 percent from June to July, with an increase in housing prices offsetting a fall in transportation costs.

Consumer prices in Utah have climbed 2.1 percent over the last 12 months, the report states.

Comparatively, prices across the U.S. have increased 2 percent year over year, with an increase of less than 0.1 percent from June to July, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A hike in housing prices offset a decline in transportation costs as Utahns paid about 2 percent less for a gallon of gasoline on average in the month of July than they did in the month of June. Utahns also saw about a 3 percent jump in hotel room rates.
