DELTA — A late night fire completely destroyed a well-known business in Delta Sunday night, leaving the owner of Delta Sports Center wondering what they are going to do now.
Firefighters got the call on the fire just before 10 p.m. and arrived in less than ten minutes. But it was too late. Despite their best efforts, the store was completely lost.
The business has been a fixture in Delta. Owner Kevin Bogue has been working at the store since 1982.
"It's a family business," he said. "All of our children have worked here or worked and then they've moved on, or some of them have stayed. It's just devastating to our family."
Fire investigators have been on the scene since last night, trying to determine the cause. While they have not officially determined anything, they think the fire started in the attic. The metal roof probably trapped in much of the heat, making the fire all the more intense.
Officials said the fire is not being considered suspicious.
"We know that we love Delta and it's been a good community to us," Bogue said. "It's heart-lifting to know that people care that much about a business."
He said it will be some time before the family can determine whether they can continue the operation.
