The Thrill of Success and the Agony of Defeat Olympic Lessons

The saddest thing; the 15,00-meter race an American women was running. Morgan Uceny was in the middle of the pack getting ready to make her move, and the next thing she knows is that she is face down on the track, hitting the ground with the palms of her hands. Somebody had accidentally hit her foot and she tripped and her many, many years of training and work were just ‘splat' all over the track. I felt so bad for this woman! Think how much time and energy she spent training. Her heart, her dreams - everything gone in one trip.

I keep thinking of the old NBC promo: The thrill of success and the agony of defeat.

A study shows that about 16% of Olympians get a little emotional on the podium. Have you ever sat watching, and you start to emote a little just watching these people that you know worked so hard to make these dreams come true?

What have these great people taught you? Dr. Matt Townsend
