LOGAN — A Logan man was able to escape a house fire through a window Friday.

The man in his 30s was awakened when he heard breaking glass, said Logan Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys. There were no smoke alarms present in the home to alert him of the blaze.

"He is extremely lucky," Humphreys said. "He woke to the sound of breaking glass and then saw smoke coming through the room. He couldn't leave through the door so he escaped through the window."

The man grabbed his cellphone on his way out of the one-story home at 790 S. 430 West and called 911 at 2:52 a.m. He was home alone at the time.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and no one was injured. "Everything went well. We were able to get it under control very quickly," Humphreys said.

The home, however, was damaged beyond repair, he said. Damage was estimated at $120,000.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. "There's quite a bit of debris, so we're still working through that," Humphreys said.
