SPRINGVILLE — Utah Highway Patrol troopers arrested a man Monday night after they say he led officers on a chase along I-15 in Utah County.

UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said officers responded to calls of a reckless driver in Orem. When they attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to stop.

Police pursued the vehicle heading south on I-15 for several miles. The driver maintained his speed at about 70 miles an hour, Johnson said, but was driving erratically the entire time.

The vehicle finally came to a stop when its tires were spiked near 1600 South in Springville. Johnson said the passenger immediately got out and surrendered, but the driver stayed put.

When troopers approached the vehicle, Johnson said they found the driver passed out. They believe he was intoxicated.

The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Nicholas Gamble, was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of DUI. His passenger was taken into custody for questioning but later released.
