This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
The lilacs are in bloom, the leaves are coming out on the trees and the weather couldn't be better in Springdale. This is one of the many reasons why in 1978, Larry and Julie McKown bought the old Zion Rest Motel in Zion Canyon. It was a risky venture. Park visitation was very seasonal and rooms rented for $14 per night. However, each year the couple improved the property and business increased.
In 1984, the McKowns added a restaurant, pool and more rooms. They renamed the newly designed lodge Flanigan's Inn after David Flanigan, a historic character who had raised his family on the property. They liked his creative spirit and Irish name.
Over the years, the down home charm, sense of genuine hospitality, wonderful climate and magnificent scenery made Flanigan's Inn a popular retreat. It also helps that Zion National Park's breathtaking beauty has become known around the world. In 2012, Zion was one of the most visited national parks in the country with around 3 million visitors. Springdale, just outside the park is now a premier destination for visitors to this Utah natural treasure.
Today, Flanigan's Inn has a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, fabulous spa and wonderful restaurant. The modern park-style lodge is a composition of cedar, wooden beams and rock walls. Most rooms have decks or patios with large windows and views of the multi-colored cliffs of Zion. The grounds have a refreshing swimming pool, koi pond, beautiful landscaping, nature trail and hilltop labyrinth. There are 29 well-appointed rooms, five spacious suites and Flanigan's two exclusive luxury villas.
Flanigan's Spa provides professional body work and luxurious wraps…relaxing and rejuvenating. The spa was recently featured in Oprah Winfrey's "O" Magazine in the "Great Escapes for Girlfriends" article.
Flanigan Inn's Spotted Dog Café menu includes salads, homemade soups, appetizers, regional specialties, light bistro favorites and luscious desserts. The restaurant's food is Zagat Rated. The wine list received a Wine Spectator's "Award of Excellence." And the atmosphere is casual and lively… It's now a favorite gathering place.
