GUNNISON — A prison inmate found dead in his cell Saturday has been identified as 62-year-old Rolando Cardona-Gueton, who was convicted in 2010 of drug possession with intent to distribute.
Cardona-Gueton was found dead Saturday morning at the Central Utah Correctional Facility.
Gunnison Police Chief Trent Halliday said the death appears to be a homicide, but a pending medical examiner's report will be required to rule out suicide.
We don't believe it was suicide.

"We don't believe it was suicide," Halliday said, indicating some of Cardona-Gueton's injuries and evidence at the scene implied the inmate did not take his own life.
Cardona-Gueton's sentence began in January 2011 and no parole date had been scheduled at the time of his death.
The Utah Department of Corrections delayed releasing an identification in the death pending notification to the man's family, but several attempts to contact relatives failed, according to a release.
