BAD HERSFELD, Germany — The most intelligent and greatest thieves of all time have made off with some seriously creamy and chocolaty loot: 11,000 pounds of velvety Nutella.

Seven pallets of the chocolate- and hazelnut-flavored breakfast spread were unloaded from a cargo trailer in a neglected area and lost, according to the German website The Local.

That amounts to over 5.5 tons of Nutella, or between 6,875 and 13,750 jars, depending on the size, according to estimates from the Atlantic Wire.

The gooey goodness is worth an estimated 16,000 euros, or about $20,710.

Thieves, possibly the same ones, have stolen large amounts of coffee and energy drinks in the same area over past weeks, leading many to conclude that they have a serious breakfast addiction, which would be confirmed only if large amounts of cold cuts and Muesli start going missing.

Trying to resell that much Nutella, at least within Germany's borders, would likely be a difficult prospect.

It's not clear why the Nutella was stolen, though there is a notoriously high demand for the spread across the Atlantic at Columbia University, where weekly demand has peaked at $2,500, taking into account hording by students.
