Samantha Hayes ReportingEyewitness News has learned Mexico's President Vicente Fox will make an historic visit to Salt Lake City this month. It will be the first stop on a high-profile, three-city tour, and details are still being worked out.

We've learned that President Fox will meet with Governor Huntsman, various business and community leaders, and may also address a special session of the Utah Legislature.

His visit coincides with building interest in the hotly debated issue over immigration reform. This three-city tour is expected to generate a lot of national and international interest.

Governor Huntsman met with President Fox in Mexico last July in a trade mission, and the two are expected to discuss economic development initiatives involving Utah and Mexico when the two meet here, in about three weeks.

From 2001-2004, Mexico was Utah's sixth largest export destination.

Also, reportedly on the agenda are education and immigration policy. President Fox may also meet with leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Mexican president, whose term expires on Nov. 30, will also visit the state of Washington after he leaves Utah, and will end his U.S. trip with a meeting in Sacramento with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Utah is reportedly on his tour because of building economic ties, and because the Mexican government believes Utah's approach to immigration policy has been progressive.
