SALT LAKE CITY — A car was destroyed Sunday in an accidental blaze that occurred on I-15.

A woman was driving an older-model Honda or Nissan north on I-15 when she noticed that some newspapers in the back seat had somehow caught on fire, according to UHP Trooper Lawrence Hopper.

The woman quickly noticed the flames and was able to pull the car near 3300 South and get out of the vehicle, moving to a safe distance, Hopper said.

The car was fully engulfed and was a complete loss. No one was injured in the incident, according to Hopper.

Photos submitted through ksl.com's iWitness app show black smoke rising from the vehicle and flames shooting upward.

Fire investigators are still looking into what caused the newspapers to catch on fire. The woman said she was a smoker, but had not been smoking for some time, Hopper said.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
