Alex Cabrero ReportingLast Thursday a two-year old boy nearly drowned in a river. Jaxon Miera was playing in a backyard, when he got a little too curious and made his way to Farmington Creek.
The creek is just a few yards away from the backyard where young Jaxon was playing. His parents told KSL Jaxon is such an adventurous, free-spirited boy, he probably jumped right in, not thinking of the danger. It almost cost him his life.
Neighbors noticed something in the water and went to help right away. When they realized it was a little boy, they called 911.
Jaxon was rushed to the hospital. His parents say he wasn't breathing and could've been underwater for up to 10 minutes. However, doctors were able to get him breathing again with the help of a ventilator. Today, Jaxon isn't quite stable, but he's expected to live.
There are still some questions regarding long-term damage, but his parents, Joey and Brook, aren't thinking about that yet, mainly because they're thrilled he's alive. A few days ago, they weren't sure he would be.
Brook Miera: "I remember thinking I never took him for granted and I didn't need this to happen for me to know how much I loved him. I love him and I remember thinking, 'I can't plan a two-year old's funeral.'"
Fortunately, it looks like they won't have to. Jaxon could be taken off his ventilator tonight, at which point his parents will finally get to hold him. They say once they do that, their love will help him make it all the way back.
