SALT LAKE CITY — The sounds of New York City were in Salt Lake City on Saturday night when the famous Juilliard Jazz Orchestra performed at the Rose Wagner Theatre.
Juilliard has developed a partnership with Snow College in Ephraim. The jazz studies program brings Juilliard faculty to the rural Utah campus to teach the Snow students.
"We have a great relationship with Snow College and the benefits run both ways," said Snow College professor, James Burton III. "It's been happening for about 10 years now."
Burton, himself a Juilliard graduate, now leads the jazz studies program at Snow College.
Each summer, Snow College hosts several Juilliard faculty members for a week-long jazz music workshop. The workshop is set up specifically to help and teach high school students.
In 2012, over 100 students were involved in the workshop. The participating students came from 23 different states and 17 countries.
