DENVER (AP) -- Qwest Communications is crediting increased sales and lower costs for a 54 percent increase in first-quarter profits.
The company says it earned 88 (M)million dollars in the first three months of this year. That's up from 57 (M)million during the same period in 2005.
The five cents per share beat analysts' estimates of a penny a share.
Officials say strong sales of Qwest's products such as high-speed Internet, long distance and wireless services boosted company profits over a year ago.
Qwest is the primary phone service provider in 14 mostly Western states, including Utah.
