PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (AP) -- The City Council has tentatively approved annexing land that includes property planned for the Liahona Academy, a private school espousing Mormon values.

Three acres of the 32-acre area to be annexed will be traded for land on Sam White Lane donated to the academy.

Both properties are near the Interstate 15 interchange in the city. The school plans to construct a building on the three acres.

The council voted 3-2 Tuesday to approve the tentative annexation of the land, which is now in the county. The council has to provide a 30-day public comment period on the annexation before giving final approval. The final decision will likely be made at the June 20 City Council meeting.

The school, which is now in Pleasant Grove, has been struggling to find a new location for months.

A donor provided land on Sam White Lane, but school officials abandoned plans to build there after learning that sexually oriented businesses could be built nearby.
