TAYLORSVILLE — A man who police say crashed his car while attempting a drive-by shooting is facing felony charges.
Denny Montana Blachkair, 25, was charged in 3rd District Court Friday with three third-degree felony counts of discharging a firearm. He was also charged with criminal mischief and obstructing justice, both class A misdemeanors.
Police say Blackhair fired three shots from his vehicle at a man walking on the sidewalk near Callaway Apartments, 1141 W. 3990 South, on Feb. 12. The shots were fired as Blackhair turned left onto 3990 South, but he turned wide and crashed into a parking structure and a concrete barrier, charges state.
A man who heard the crash saw Blackhair exit the vehicle and throw something over a fence, which was later determined to be a 45-caliber handgun, the charges state.
Unified police found three 45-caliber shell casings in or near the wrecked car, according to charges, and the window of a Nissan 300ZX parked nearby was shot out. Apartment buildings, vehicles and recreational facilities were located in the direction where Blackhair fired, the charges state.
