OKLAHOMA CITY — An LDS missionary from Benton, Ark. was killed Friday when she was hit by a truck while biking.
Alesa Renee Smith, 22, was serving a mission in Oklahoma City. She was hit from behind by a truck while riding with her companion, according to a statement from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her companion was uninjured, according to church officials.
"The entire Church grieves at her passing and we pray for her family and friends at this difficult time," the statement read.
The Oklahoman reported that Smith had been serving in the mission for about 10 months when she was hit.
"She is a lovely, kind young woman and was loved by everyone who knows her," mission president Nolan Taylor told The Oklahoman. "A lot of folks here were blessed to get to know her."
No other details about the death were immediately available.
