SALT LAKE CITY — A woman is in critical condition Sunday after a truck slammed into the rear end of her vehicle during a medical incident.

At about 10:40 a.m., a man driving a large Ford truck suffered an unspecified medical episode, possibly passing out, having a seizure according to Lt. Scott White with the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The man, travelling west on North Temple, then slammed into the rear end of a blue sedan at the traffic light at North Temple and 400 West. The sedan was pushed across the intersection and the rear end was crushed, White said.

The truck continued across the intersection and struck a red sedan on the eastbound side of the intersection before coming to a rest against the road's side rail, White said.

The female driver of the car sustained a "severe head injury" and required CPR at the scene. The male passenger of the car was also injured. The woman remains in critical condition, White said.

The driver of the truck was not seriously hurt and remained at the scene with police. There were no other injuries.

Police are still investigating the incident to determine exactly what caused the crash and whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
