MIDVALE — A West Valley man is facing a felony charge after police said he took a running vehicle from a Midvale business in an attempt to prevent his ex-girlfriend's wedding.
Andrew Marlin Curtis, 30, is charged with unauthorized control of a vehicle for an extended time, a third-degree felony, according to documents filed Thursday in 3rd District Court.
Police said Curtis was waiting for a friend to take him to talk to his ex-girlfriend on Jan. 18, in hopes of convincing her not to get married that day. When Curtis' ride didn't arrive, he spotted a truck that had been left running in the parking lot of a business at 746 E. 7800 South, and drove away in it, charges state.

An officer who responded to the business on reports of a stolen vehicle was on scene when Curtis returned in the truck, charges state. He explained to police why he took the truck, said his ex-girlfriend wouldn't talk to him, and returned the truck after his attempt.
Curtis also said that he lost control of the vehicle in a church parking lot and "hit something." Police recovered the bumper and license plate of the truck in the parking lot of a church near East Bengal Boulevard, according to the charges. Damage was estimated at $1,000.
