KAMAS — Search and rescue crews have been deployed east of Kamas to assist Wasatch County after an avalanche in the Mill Hollow area.
Two helicopters have left the avalanche scene, both en route to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. There were two male victims, ages 7 and 14. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
Wasatch County Dispatch Center received a 911 call at about 4:00 pm. Initial reports indicated the avalanche may have occurred in the West Fork of the Duchesne, according to the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office. Search and rescue teams from Summit and Wasatch counties responded.
Two AirMed helicopters were dispatched to the scene and assisted in locating and treating the two boys, and then airlifted the victims to Primary Children's Hospital.
A family was on flat area on top of a mountain and the two boys may have gone too close to the edge of the cliff, according to Jared Rigby, the Chief Deputy of the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office. Rigby said the boys fell about 50 feet, and as snow followed, it buried them.
Once the boys were dug from the collapsed snow and search and rescue performed CPR as they were airlifted.
Law enforcement officers from the U.S. Forest Service, Utah State Parks and Wasatch County Sheriff's Office also responded to the area and assisted.
