SALT LAKE CITY — Newark mayor Cory Booker, a rising star in the Democratic Party, is offering a $1,000 reward for information regarding illegally owned firearms, according to a new television ad running in New Jersey.

"We have had a significant reduction in shootings in our city, but it is still too many," Booker says in the commercial. "There is a small group of people in our city that thinks they can walk around with guns. It is unacceptable. But we can't just wish this would stop. We can't just hope this will stop. We as individuals have to do something about it."

Booker goes on to describe the program, saying an anonymous tip line has been set up for residents to give information about who is carrying and an arrest will be made.

"Give us the information about who is carrying a gun and we don't even have to have a conviction," Booker says. "We arrest that individual and simply get that gun off the streets."

Anyone who calls the tip line and provides legitimate information will receive a $1,000 reward. No questions will be asked and there will be no record of the call.

Booker instructs individuals to call back after the gun has been taken off the streets and to collect their reward.

"Go to the bank, or send somebody to a bank, and they will give you $1,000 cash. No question asked. This is the best program in the country. A quick $1,000."

The city of Newark previously offered $500 before doubling the reward.

Piers Morgan takes on Alex Jones

Alex Jones, a conservative talk show host based in Austin, Texas, was invited to talk with CNN's Piers Morgan Monday night to discuss gun control. The invite came a couple weeks after Jones started a White House petition to deport Morgan for his position on gun control.

Jones, however, took the opportunity on Morgan's show to rant and scream about gun control, criticizing Morgan for his stance on gun control.

"I'm here to tell you, 1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms!" Jones said. "Doesn't matter how many lemmings you get out there on the street, begging for ‘em to have their guns taken. We will not relinquish them. Do you understand?! That's why you're going to fail, and the establishment knows, no matter how much propaganda, the republic will rise again!"

Following his so-called discussion with Jones, Morgan told Politico that Jones "was the best advertisement for gun control you could wish for."

"That kind of vitriol, hatred, and zealotry is really quite scary. I didn't feel threatened by him, but I'm concerned that someone like him has that level of influence," Morgan said. "There's got to be a level of discourse that can rise above what happened last night. It was undignified, unedifying."

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 107,000 signatures had been added to Jones' petition. The petition says Morgan is "engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment." The petition continues by demanding that Morgan be deported for his "effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens."

About an hour after Jones' meeting with Morgan, the talk show host took to his YouTube channel to say that he was afraid undercover police officers — New York City Mayor Bloomberg's "armed mafia" — were following him.
