SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A father who allegedly kidnapped his three small children and attempted to drive off a cliff now faces charges.
Yesterday, 35-year-old Christopher Wayne Young was charged with six felonies, including three counts each of attempted aggravated murder and child abuse.
Authorities say Young took his kids, ages six, four and 18 months, from their mother's apartment earlier this month. He allegedly told them he was taking them to heaven.
Court documents say Young drove down a hill off I-15 near the Point of the Mountain. He then returned to the freeway and drove off it again, this time crashing through a fence. The vehicle then stopped after getting a flat tire.
The children suffered minor injuries.
