Sam Penrod Reporting"We've been waiting a long time and we're very happy with what happened today."
More than a decade after their daughter disappeared, the parents of Kiplyn Davis await the first trial for the man accused in her death.
Next Tuesday will mark the eleventh anniversary, of when 15-year old Kiplyn Davis disappeared. It will also be the beginning of the trial of Timmy Brent Olsen, who will be tried on charges that he lied under oath about his involvement in her disappearance.
The judge heard arguments about several legal issues in the trial, which will start on Tuesday. But the most stunning news of the day came when prosecutors revealed they have witnesses who will testify that Kiplyn Davis was beaten to death with a flashlight. It was the latest information to come out of secret grand jury testimony from the last couple of years.
Beginning on Tuesday, when Timmy Brent Olsen stands trial on perjury charges, we will finally hear the case that prosecutors have against him. Out of the five men indicted for lying about what they know in the case, Olsen is clearly at the center of the investigation, because in January he was charged in state court with Kiplyn's murder.
Now Kiplyn's parents are trying to prepare themselves for an emotional trial, in addition to observing the 11-year mark since their daughter disappeared.
Richard Davis, Kiplyn's Father: "It's going to be a very tough next couple of weeks, I think, but like I said, we're glad we're here and I know it's going to be very hard on my wife and me too. It was hard today listening just to the little bit of what we heard today. But we are going to be strong and we know we've got to go through this and we know it's the right thing to do."
So far, authorities have not been able to find Kiplyn's remains. Kiplyn's parents say their focus is still on having their daughter's body found.
Jury selection begins Monday, and on Tuesday Timmy Olsen will face a jury, in what prosecutors will hope finally solve the case of what happened to Kiplyn Davis.
