Randall Jeppesen, KSL Newsradio According to a year-end report released by the Nielsen Company, the city beat out all other metropolitan areas in the number of movies watched and DVDs purchased.
Plenty of Utahns opt to grab a bucket of popcorn as a staple of their entertainment. Megaplex theater marketing director Dave Bollard says one of the biggest reasons is Utah's big families. "Our PG, G, PG-13 movies are huge," he said.
Bollard says we do have the Utah Jazz and other local teams, but he says the area is somewhat starved for other entertainment opportunities. So, in Utah going to the movies is the thing to do.
"The ‘National Treasure' movie, the previous one that came out, I think it ran 18 weeks," Bollard said.
Also, even though movie ticket prices always seem expensive, Salt Lake area ticket prices are typically $2 to $4 cheaper than in many other cities.
