SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah family joined the discourse about gun rights and gun violence during an ABC News special.

In an investigative look at gun violence and gun rights, ABC News profiled a Utah family that say guns are part of their livelihood, alongside a Chicago hospital emergency room that treats many cases of gunshot wounds and a Colorado gun range. They were attempting to answer the question of "can America live by the gun without dying by the gun?"

Tremonton residents Casey and Kayli Butler are parents of two young children, 6-year-old Brailee and 4-year-old Gage. By their daughter's estimate, they own 13 guns, all of which are kept locked up in a gun case separate from the ammunition. For her fourth birthday, Brailee received her own pink rifle.

Kayli Butler told ABC she's not nervous having guns around the house. She, her husband and their children are "well versed in gun safety" and learned about the dangers of guns from a young age. Casey agrees.

"I'm not worried about my kids getting into guns because they know and I've taught them that they're not supposed to be around a gun unless what?" Casey Butler asked Brailee.

"Unless a parent's supervising," Brailee responded.

The couple frequently takes their two children shooting and hunting — killing game to put food on the table.

"Gun rights to me are important because it's my livelihood. I supply this food for my family, and my kids like to go do it," Casey Butler said.

"We aren't shooting everything and pulling our guns out and playing with guns all the time. We are very responsible and respectful of guns," Kaylie Butler said.
