Nedra White: "This was an unfortunate situation. As to what happened, what caused it, we don't know."

Nedra White is struggling for answers after a violent attack put her son in the hospital. Now his wife is in jail for attempted murder.

Nedra White: "He remembers thinking, 'I'm going to die here,' and he remembers thinking, 'I don't want anyone else to get hurt.'"

What happened left friends in disbelief. One didn't want to be identified.

Friend: "He's known for a long time that she was really upset and angry, but he didn't think it would come to this extreme."

Friends and family say Brenda White waited for her husband to leave work yesterday, then tried to run him down with her car.

Friend: "He was on the phone and had actually just hung up and heard a car accelerating behind him."

He ran through the parking lot and into the office building. But he wasn't safe. Police say his wife plowed her SUV through the lobby, hit him, then backed up to try and hurt him again.

Nedra White: "He's just very emotional. I mean, emotions are right at the surface for all of us."

White declined to say what the argument was about, but denies it had to do with custody. The couple has two young girls.

Nedra White: "Two families are involved and they're both hurting, and there's two beautiful girls whose, well, their lives were changed yesterday."

White says the couple has been separated for six months and is in the middle of a divorce. She says Brenda White has been violent in the past, but she's saddened it had to come to this.

Nedra White: "It's unfortunate that sometimes that human emotions get the best of us."

The couple's children, who are three and five years old, are with their father and grandparents. Jon White suffered a broken ankle along with cuts and bruises.
