PROVO — Police say a man was stabbed in Provo Friday night after an argument at an apartment complex.

At about 5:45 p.m., police responded to a call from a 21-year-old man who said he had been stabbed in the chest , according to police.

Police say the victim and 28-year-old Tyson Ellis were involved in an argument earlier in the day. The two later saw each other in a hallway at 80 S. 900 East, and a physical altercation ensued.

Ellis then allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest, puncturing his left lung. Ellis also received a cut to the hand, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.

During the investigation, police located a folding pocket knife with a four-inch blade which may be the alleged weapon.

Ellis was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.

A check of court records indicates Ellis has an extensive criminal history, including multiple felony and misdemeanor assault and burglary convictions in Provo.
