Randall Jeppesen reportingSome commuters are upset over the carpool lane on 1-15 turning into a toll lane. They're calling it a lane for the rich.

Some people say they'd be happy to pay fifty bucks a month to drive in the carpool lane, now being called the "hot lane". But many are writing the state saying it's becoming a "Lexus Lane", a privileged lane for the rich. But UDOT says the move will make life easier for everyone.

Bethany Eller, Spokesperson: "So it's removing traffic from the general purpose lanes, which is going to be beneficial to everyone."

Spokesperson Bethany Eller says during peak times more traffic using the hot line could increase speeds in the other lanes by up to ten miles an hour. The hot lane will remain free for motorcycles and carpoolers just like before.

The carpool lane officially turns into the hot lane this fall.
