WEST VALLEY CITY — Police chased down a suspected car thief but had to use tire spikes and a K-9 to catch him.
West Valley City police say an officer spotted a stolen car traveling on 3500 South Thursday night. He tried to pull the car over, but it sped away. The chase that followed varied in speed from 35 miles per hour to 75 miles per hour through city streets.
State troopers used tire spikes at 3300 South and the I-15 overpass. The car didn't make it very far after that.
When the vehicle stopped at 3300 South and 200 East, the driver tried to flee on foot. A police dog took him down about a block away.
The man, whose name was not immediately available, was to be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after being treated at a hospital for dog bites.
