Lance Bandley reportingA warning for homeowners: Be careful who works on your house. The Better Business Bureau says every year at this time, they get hundreds of calls reporting home improvement scams.

Are you thinking of adding on or making some improvements at home?

Jane Driggs, Utah Better Business Bureau: "You need to get the bids from several people, not just one, and you need to get references."

Utah Better Business Bureau President Jane Driggs says to watch out for unqualified contractors or others just trying to con you. She says usually they just come up to your house promising their work for cheap prices. Often they don't do what was promised or just take the money and run.

Jane Driggs, Utah Better Business Bureau: "When you're signing a contract with a company, make sure that anything they say verbally gets into the contract. If it's not in the contract you're going to have a hard time getting that enforced.

Driggs says it's better to do a little research ahead of time instead of spending hours and hours trying to figure out how to resolve the problem.
