BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) -- Box Elder County officials and residents are talking about creating a new regional landfill.

The Northern Utah Landfill Association has chosen the area near the Box Elder County dump to be the site for a landfill for waste from Weber, Davis, Morgan, Cache and Box Elder counties.

County commissioners are holding open houses in Tremonton on Tuesday and another in Brigham City on Thursday to discuss the possibilities.

A public hearing is also scheduled for Dec. 18.

The counties hope that combining the waste in one location can reduce the cost to taxpayers. But neighbors are concerned about what a giant dumping ground would mean for the area.
