DRAPER — A two-alarm fire in Draper forced several people out of their homes Tuesday night.

Just before 6 p.m., fire crews were called an apartment complex at [. "First crews arrived and reported heavy smoke on the eves so the roofline," said Unified Fire Cpt. Cliff Burningham.

The fire was burning in a nearby mechanic room and in the attic of one of the buildings. Three families living inside were asked to evacuate, along with neighbors in two other buildings.

The fire was 100 percent contained within 20 minutes, leaving behind moderate damage &38212; about $50,000 to $100,000 worth.

"There is some fire damage to the roof," Burningham said. "We also had some of our truck companies go to the roof; one crew cut a hole in the roof to let heat and smoke out."

One neighbor on the first floor was just coming home when she saw the fire crews. Alysha Olsen's apartment now has water damage and will stay the night with family members.

"I'm just very thankful that I have family nearby so I have somewhere to stay," Olsen said. The cause of the fire is unknown, but firefights say it's a good reminder to keep combustibles away from heating devices and to get your appliances serviced.
