Tom Callan, KSL Newsradio A developer's plan to tear down a historic strip in Sugar House is provoking online opposition.

Taking the Sugar House out of Sugar House; that is the fear of some who work along 2100 South and Highland Drive. That's where Mecham Investments hopes to build two office buildings.

"It's nice to preserve something that's unique and has character," a photography shop owner said. She is among 250 to sign an online petition against Mecham.

"His design that he says is going to retain the flavor of Sugar House doesn't appear to me to retain the flavor of Sugar House," another opponent to the project said.

But city council members say the Mecham group is adhering to the master plan.
