ATLANTA (AP) -- Delta Air Lines says it's instituting a selective hiring freeze to deal with high fuel prices.
Delta President Ed Bastian says high fuel costs will weaken Delta's operating margin and fourth-quarter results.
Bastian says jet fuel prices are up nearly 50 percent since the beginning of the year.
He says there could be job cuts, but he didn't offer any numbers or specifics.
Bastian was speaking at a New York conference on airline stocks.
