SANDY — A man who exposed himself to a child while shopping at Wal-Mart has been arrested.

Steven Norman Powell, 57, was at the Wal-Mart at 9151 Quarry Stone Way on Aug. 23 when the incident occurred. According to Sandy Police, Powell, who was in a wheelchair, exposed his genitals to a 7-year-old girl who was shopping with her mother and grandmother.

After confirming his identification, the Salt Lake District Attorney's Office issued a warrant for Powell's arrest, which took place on Sept. 27.

Powell was charged with lewdness by a registered sex offender involving a child, a 3rd Degree Felony.

He was charged in 2003 with lewdness involving a child, a Class A midemeanor in the 3rd District Court. He was ordered to register as a sex offender in that case.
