OREM — An Orem doctor has been arrested on charges of sexual misconduct after allegedly assaulting one of his patients during an office visit and showing the woman inappropriate videos.

David R. Hillam, a doctor at the University of Utah Medical Clinic in Orem, was arrested Monday night and booked into the Utah County Jail after an investigation by the Orem Police Department. Police said they first became aware of the situation when a 60-year-old patient of Hillam's filed a report.

The woman said Hillam had started making sexually suggestive comments three years ago and would sometimes give her unnecessary vaginal exams during other medical procedures.

She also said over the past six months, Hillam had shown her videos on his cellphone of him and his wife that were inappropriate and sexual in nature.

The victim had been a patient of Hillam's for seven years and would visit his office up to four times a week due to a variety of health problems, according to Orem police.

Hillam admitted to showing sexual videos to the victim. He denied to Orem police that the exams were sexual in nature, but told a Utah licensing investigator that some of the exams were sexual.

Hillam's physician and controlled substance licenses currently remain active. The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing "is currently seeking disciplinary action against David Richard Hillam's professional licenses," according to a prepared statement by the division.

Hillam will be charged with four counts of lewdness, a class B misdemeanor, and three counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

The Orem Police Department is requesting that any other patients of Hillam's who need to report a crime call Orem dispatch at 801-229-7070.
