(KSL News) -- Today is the 37th annual observance of "Earth Day". This date is set aside every year for the world to celebrate and remember all the natural wonders of the planet.
Over the years, it's became a day for planting trees and flowers, and cleaning up parks and hiking trails. It's also a day for keeping environmental issues top of mind.
Issues like the importance of recycling!
At Library Square today, a fun way to illustrate that-- with the Recycled Fashion Show!
"This robot is made out of re-used cardboard, circuit boards and cd's. "
A good sized crowd gathered to admire the entries, including a bubble wrap wedding gown. We also liked this woman, who designed an outfit out of used wire, and telephone equipment she found at the landfill.
Ally Jarvis: "Just to be inspired and get ideas that it's better to think of ways to reuse things, rather than just throw them away in your garbage can."
At Liberty Park, it was the annual "Earth Jam" celebration-- three different stages of music going from noon to 9 tonight. Also, various art and non-profit environmental groups set up information booths.
And, nearly 150 teens from all over the valley were busy digging and planting. The Youth Garden project is on county-owned land located near 3158 S. 1100 West. Each year young people plant and harvest a variety of items, that they donate to local charities.
