(KSL News) Tomorrow is Earth Day and to comemmorate it there will be numerous celebrations statewide.
Just like last year, Hogle Zoo will have some special events. And if you bring an old cell phone to recycle, you get a dollar off general admission.
Elsewhere, there's a long list of events in this morning's Deseret Morning News. Here are some highlights. All take place on Saturday except the Computer for Kids event, today and Saturday:
- Several groups are sponsoring a celebration on the plaza of Library Square at Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 South, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A recycling fashion show, a vegetarian burger-eating contest and music are on the slate. The group No More Homeless Pets will have a booth, as will the Utah Animal Rights Coalition. Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson and others will speak during the celebration.
- Computer for Kids is sponsoring a recycling event at Rice-Eccles Stadium, University of Utah campus, 1-5 p.m. today and Saturday. All types of electronics equipment can be brought in.
- The Utah Conservation Corps at Utah State University, Logan, plans to plant native trees at Lions Park, 535 E. 100 North, Hyde Park, Cache County. The planting is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Zion National Park in southern Utah plans free public activities at the park's Springville entrance in the Giant Screen Theater Complex. The events include birding, a hike, shuttle tour, greenhouse tour, children's games and a raptor display. They begin at 10 a.m., with park officials not specifying a time for the programs to end.

- Utah Gardens Achieving Resourcefulness Diversity Education and Neighborhood Safety (Utah GARDENS), expects a gathering of about 150 teens to plant two large gardens. Vegetables grown there are expected to go to the Utah Food Bank and other pantries. The event will be at 3158 S. and 1100 West, with people entering from 3300 South.
- Sierra Club volunteers will walk through the Daybreak neighborhood in South Jordan, building support for the new TRAX line. The area is west of Bangerter Highway around 11400 South.
- Recycle Utah plans to offer coffee and bagels during the broadcast of a radio program from the center, in the Park City area of Woodbine Way and Kearns Boulevard. The live broadcast is 7-9 a.m. But until 4 p.m. the center will continue offering information about hazardous waste, compost, recycling and native plants.
