WEST WENDOVER, Nev. — Three were arrested over Labor Day weekend in a marijuana bust that resulted from a traffic stop.
Officers stopped a vehicle for an alleged traffic violation Sept. 2 at 5:25 a.m. They noticed an overwhelming odor consistent with the smell of raw marijuana and received consent to search the vehicle, according to Sgt. David Wiskerchen with the West Wendover Police Department.
Two large duffel bags yielded 40 individually packaged clear plastic bags, each containing 1 pound of raw marijuana.
Officers also seized $1,631 in U.S. currency during the search.
"Our officers did a fine job getting these drugs off the streets," Wiskerchen said. "They don't belong on the street."
Brittany Sartin, 23; KariMarie Fonseca, 21; and William Nixon, 34, all of Lorain, Ohio, were subsequently arrested for investigation of possession of controlled substances for sale, with bail set at $5,000 for Fonseca and Nixon, and $5,112 for Sartin, the driver of the vehicle.
