This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Mark Miller of Mark Miller Auto Group has been in the auto industry since he was a kid. In fact, he was the COO of his father‘s auto business at the age of 20!

His father was a visionary and in the early 70s could see the application of computers on the auto industry, so he bought a computer. It was the size of a small car with 8k of memory and cost $85,000 dollars. Mark went to IBM training and developed such an aptitude for computers he created a dealership software program he sold to other dealers.

By the time he was 25, Mark figured out how to get enough funds together to buy his father's business, making him the youngest GM dealer in the U.S. One year later, still 25, he married Kathie Miller.

Mark and Kathie Miller value supporting their community and are leading by example. They set up the Mark and Kathei Miller Foundation with a main focus of their support going to the United Way's Community Learning Centers and mobile health clinics. The common theme for the Millers is helping kids get a fair shot with basic needs like a place to go to after school and health care. Mark and Kathie are excited to see the crime rate drop 40 percent in the neighborhoods where the community centers are set up. Health care issues are important for Mark, as he takes the reins as Chairman of the U of U Health Science Board.

Their two sons, John at the Toyota dealership and Jeff at the Subaru dealerships, are in the business and running the operations in the South Towne, West Temple and State Street locations. With Mark's great uncle and grandfather who started in the auto business in Idaho, this successful Mark Miller Auto Group has made it to the 4th generation and remains strong.
