Tom Callan, KSL Newsradio Veterans Day this year has come and gone, but some don't like the way it is celebrated in Utah.
Led by U.S. history teacher Mike Leavitt at Riverton High School, some students say Utah schools should lock their doors and take the day off to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"Nevada observes it, California observes it, Arizona observes it, Idaho observes it: every state in the West, except for Utah," Leavitt explained. He says his students are acting out of conviction, not just to get another day off.
The decision is in the hands of the Jordan District school board. Four members of the board attended a meeting where students say what is good for the banks on Veterans Day also should be good for the state's schools.
