(KSL News) -- Salt Lake County Animal Services seized dozens of roosters found in cages on Redwood Road.
Fire crews stumbled on the roosters last night while responding to a grass fire. Authorities originally believed the birds were being used for cock fighting, but now suspect the birds' feathers could be used to make fly fishing lures.
They seized 40 to 50 birds and posted a note on the property, asking the owner to contact Salt Lake County Animal Services.
An anonymous tip led them to believe the owner lived in Wyoming and wasn't coming back.
Salt Lake County Animal Services will now investigate the tip and check on the condition of the birds to determine if charges will be filed.
