PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A Katrina evacuee has been bound over for trial on a first-degree felony aggravated arson charge in a fire at an apartment complex.
Herbert Samuel Landry, 46, is accused in the Feb. 26 fire at the Shadowood Apartments that caused an estimated $200,000 damage and left three tenants homeless.
Following a preliminary hearing Thursday, 4th District Judge Steven Hansen ruled there was sufficient evidence to require Landry to stand trial.
Landry had been released from jail just two days before the fire after being held for 12 days following an arrest on suspicion of methamphetamine possession in a drug-free zone.
An eviction order had been issued earlier in the month and Landry was supposed to have removed his belongings by the day of the fire.
Provo Fire Marshal Jim Guynn testified that the fire started in Landry's bedroom and quickly spread through the apartment complex.
He said the burn pattern was consistent with an accelerant being used.
