SALT LAKE CITY — A Southern California grower has issued a recall of onion products it believes may have been contaminated by bacteria. Some of those onions have now made their way to Utah.

Gills Onions issued a voluntary recall all onion products made and packaged on July 18 due to listeria contamination concerns. By July 26, the recall list was expanded to include all products with use-by dates on or before Aug. 3.

A listeria infection causes symptoms of fever, headache, nausea and diarrhea. While it is potentially fatal to children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems, no illnesses have been reported yet.

Garden Highway brand bean dips and salsa and Chef Essentials vegetable mixes and pizzas are among the items included in the recall. For a complete list of recalled items, visit http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm313576.htm.
