ALPINE — Despite recent rain that has helped firefighters in Utah, fire officials are watching a flare-up of the Quail Fire in Alpine.
The U.S. Forest Service is scrambling to determine if crews will need air support to douse hot spots after a flare-up Thursday afternoon.
Alpine Mayor Hunt Willoughby told the Daily Herald they expected flare-ups because fire officials told them it's normal. For example, embers inside a log can get oxygen and then flare up.
So now, crews are watching it closely to make sure it doesn't cause any more damage. It may be several weeks before the threat of flare-ups passes.
The Quail Fire in Alpine was declared 100-percent contained on July 11 and has burned more than 2,200 acres.
